Trump Accounts, also known as 530A accounts,\u00a0are open to any U.S. child under 18 with a Social Security number and include a one-time\u00a0$1,000 pilot program contribution<\/a>\u00a0from the Treasury for babies born from 2025 through 2028.<\/p>\n

A growing number of companies, including State Street and BlackRock, have pledged to match<\/a>\u00a0the accounts’ $1,000 Treasury deposit for children of employees. After July 4, parents, guardians, grandparents and others can also contribute up to $5,000 a year. <\/p>\n

“Trump Accounts offer a meaningful opportunity for families to begin investing early on behalf of their children,” Rodney Comegys, chief investment officer and head of global equity at Vanguard Capital Management, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

While there are benefits to the “100% equities investment options,” an earlier\u00a0Vanguard<\/a>\u00a0research note pointed out that Trump Accounts “don’t gradually de-risk toward a bond allocation” like other account types, such as 529 college savings plans<\/a>. Those generally start off with more equity exposure early on and then become more conservative over time as the target date for tapping the money approaches.<\/p>\n
