{"id":45082,"date":"2026-06-29T18:14:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T18:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=45082"},"modified":"2026-06-29T18:14:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T18:14:11","slug":"trump-account-contributions-will-not-trigger-gift-tax-reporting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=45082","title":{"rendered":"Trump Account contributions will not trigger gift tax reporting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div id=\"RegularArticle-ArticleBody-5\" data-module=\"ArticleBody\" data-test=\"articleBody-2\" data-analytics=\"RegularArticle-articleBody-5-2\"><span class=\"HighlightShare-hidden\" style=\"top:0;left:0\"\/><\/p>\n<div role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-108291672\">\n<div role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" id=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-108291672\" class=\"PlaceHolder-wrapper\" data-vilynx-id=\"7000409736\" data-test=\"VideoPlaceHolder\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-videoEmbed\" id=\"InlineVideo-0\" data-test=\"InlineVideo\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-inlineThumbnailContainer\"><span class=\"InlineVideo-videoButton\"\/><span\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Contributions to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/23\/trump-account-signups-hit-6-million-millions-more-children-eligible.html\">Trump Accounts<\/a> will not be subject to gift tax reporting under the safe harbor rules, according to guidance issued Monday by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/treasury-irs-provide-safe-harbor-for-certain-contributions-to-trump-accounts-under-the-working-families-tax-cuts\" target=\"_blank\">Internal Revenue Service<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>As a result, parents, guardians, grandparents and others can contribute up to $5,000 a year in after-tax dollars to a Trump Account and they will not be required to file a gift tax return.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By granting this relief, the IRS has responded to concerns raised by taxpayers who planned to make contributions to a Trump account but worried such donations would trigger the gift tax reporting rules,&#8221; IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank Bisignano said in a statement. &#8220;The relief granted will reduce the potential burden placed on friends and family who want to put money into a Trump account.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-relatedContent\" id=\"RegularArticle-RelatedContent-1\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-container\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-nonCollapsibleContent\">\n<h2 id=\"read-more-cnbc-personal-finance-coverage\" class=\"RelatedContent-header\">Read more CNBC personal finance coverage<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>The gift tax return filing requirement had been a potential sticking point, experts say. <\/p>\n<p>To qualify for the annual exclusion, gifts must be &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/instructions\/i709\" target=\"_blank\">present interest<\/a>,&#8221; with immediate recipient access.
