Incoming Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh won’t be looking to cut interest rates and in fact may want to consider raising them, investor Paul Tudor Jones said Thursday.<\/p>\n
“Do I think he’ll cut rates? No chance,” Jones said during a wide-ranging CNBC “Squawk Box<\/a>” interview.<\/p>\n Warsh has made no secret<\/a> of his belief that the central bank should be thinking about lowering interest rates. The Fed’s benchmark overnight rate is currently in a range between 3.5%-3.75%, where it has sat since December.<\/p>\n Though Warsh sees a path to easing, he will face a Federal Open Market Committee that is coming off a meeting with the most dissents<\/a> in nearly 34 years. Most of the disagreements have come from regional presidents<\/a> who objected to the language in the post-meeting statement interpreted as a nod to the potential for further cuts after the three in the latter part of 2025.<\/p>\n Jones said there’s a case to be made for hiking.<\/p>\n “Well, I’d be thinking about raising them,” he said. “I’d want to see the data. But I mean, for sure you’d be thinking about it. And I think he’s going to be constrained before the election.”<\/p>\n Policymakers face an environment in which the labor market appears to have stabilized while the Iran war and President Donald Trump’s tariffs have helped keep inflation well above the Fed’s 2% target<\/a>. <\/p>\n Futures traders are pricing in a Fed hold that lasts through the year, with slight and roughly equal chances of a cut or hike, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch<\/a> gauge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
