{"id":43454,"date":"2026-04-30T16:06:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T16:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=43454"},"modified":"2026-04-30T16:06:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T16:06:03","slug":"trump-to-sign-executive-order-expanding-retirement-account-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=43454","title":{"rendered":"Trump to sign executive order expanding retirement account access"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div id=\"RegularArticle-ArticleBody-5\" data-module=\"ArticleBody\" data-test=\"articleBody-2\" data-analytics=\"RegularArticle-articleBody-5-2\"><span class=\"HighlightShare-hidden\" style=\"top:0;left:0\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"InlineImage-imageEmbed\" id=\"ArticleBody-InlineImage-108195126\" data-test=\"InlineImage\">\n<div class=\"InlineImage-wrapper\">\n<div>\n<p>US President Donald Trump signs executive orders in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, DC on September 5, 2025. <\/p>\n<p>Mandel Ngan | Afp | Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order as soon as Thursday to create a new type of retirement account for workers who don&#8217;t currently have access to a 401(k) or another workplace plan. <\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/26\/how-to-save-for-retirement-without-workplace-plan.html\">initially floated the idea<\/a> of creating the accounts, which would come with a federal matching contribution of up to $1,000, during his State of the Union address in February. <\/p>\n<p>Roughly 56 million Americans lack access to an employer-sponsored retirement plan at work,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pew.org\/en\/research-and-analysis\/issue-briefs\/2025\/06\/workers-without-access-to-retirement-benefits-struggle-to-build-wealth\" target=\"_blank\">according to 2025 research\u00a0<\/a>from the Pew Charitable Trusts, an independent public policy nonprofit.<\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s plan, first reported by Semafor, will be integrated with the Saver&#8217;s Match, a provision from 2022 legislation known as Secure 2.0, which goes into effect starting in tax year 2027. <\/p>\n<p>Under those rules, single taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $20,000 (or joint filers making up to $40,000), qualify for a government match worth 50% of up to a $2,000 contribution to a qualified retirement account, for a maximum match of $1,000 a year. Single filers with annual incomes between $20,000 and $35,000 qualify for reduced contributions.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.morningstar.com\/content\/cs-assets\/v3\/assets\/blt9415ea4cc4157833\/blt8e3e963c64eaeb6d\/67979fc5284b0afcd79094d1\/Impact_of_the_Savers_Match_on_Retirement_Wealth_Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Morningstar model of retirement outcomes<\/a>\u00a0projected that Americans eligible for the match would receive a 12% boost to their wealth in retirement.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>This is a developing story.
