{"id":36549,"date":"2025-10-08T11:44:22","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T11:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=36549"},"modified":"2025-10-08T11:44:22","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T11:44:22","slug":"how-ai-is-poised-to-disrupt-the-job-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=36549","title":{"rendered":"How AI is poised to disrupt the job market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div id=\"RegularArticle-ArticleBody-5\" data-module=\"ArticleBody\" data-test=\"articleBody-2\" data-analytics=\"RegularArticle-articleBody-5-2\"><span class=\"HighlightShare-hidden\" style=\"top:0;left:0\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"InlineImage-imageEmbed\" id=\"ArticleBody-InlineImage-108208463\" data-test=\"InlineImage\">\n<div class=\"InlineImage-wrapper\">\n<div>\n<p>Nitat Termmee | Moment | Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Artificial intelligence is poised to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/08\/ai-artificial-intelligence-workforce-impact.html\">disrupt<\/a> the job market \u2014 but some workers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/07\/31\/ai-could-affect-many-white-collar-high-paid-jobs.html\">are in the crosshairs<\/a> more than others, according to labor experts.<\/p>\n<p>Roughly 1 in 4 (or, 26%) of the jobs posted on career site Indeed over the past year are poised to \u201cradically transform\u201d due to generative artificial intelligence, also known as gen AI, according to a September <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiringlab.org\/2025\/09\/23\/ai-at-work-report-2025-how-genai-is-rewiring-the-dna-of-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> by Indeed.<\/p>\n<p>Gen AI \u2014 examples of which include OpenAI\u2019s Chat GPT and Google\u2019s Gemini \u2014 mimics human brainpower<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/think\/topics\/generative-ai\" target=\"_blank\"> by creating<\/a> original content like text, images, video, audio or software code from a user prompt.<\/p>\n<p>Industries in which gen AI can supplant a human\u2019s cognitive reasoning skills \u2014 like certain jobs in technology and finance \u2014 are most at risk, said Laura Ullrich, director of economic research for North America at Indeed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe jobs that are more likely to have a high degree of transformation are white-collar jobs,\u201d Ullrich said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-108207665\">\n<div role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" id=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-108207665\" class=\"PlaceHolder-wrapper\" data-vilynx-id=\"7000390997\" data-test=\"VideoPlaceHolder\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-videoEmbed\" id=\"InlineVideo-0\" data-test=\"InlineVideo\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-inlineThumbnailContainer\"><span class=\"InlineVideo-videoButton\"\/><span\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>By contrast, certain roles like nursing and blue-collar jobs in manufacturing or construction are more insulated, Ullrich said.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because occupations that rely more heavily on physical labor or human interaction remain outside the current scope of generative AI, at least for now, according to the Indeed report.<\/p>\n<p>Jobs in \u201chigher-paying fields where a college education and analytical skills can be a plus\u201d<strong> <\/strong>are most exposed to artificial intelligence, according to a 2023 Pew Research Center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/social-trends\/2023\/07\/26\/which-u-s-workers-are-more-exposed-to-ai-on-their-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a>. Budget analysts, data entry keyers, tax preparers, technical writers and web developers are examples of such jobs, it found.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, 19% of American workers in 2022 were in jobs that are the \u201cmost exposed to AI,\u201d whereby their most important activities may be replaced or assisted by AI, Pew found.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"agentic-ai-may-affect-even-more-roles\" class=\"ArticleBody-subtitle\"><a id=\"headline0\"\/>Agentic AI may affect even more roles<\/h2>\n<h2 id=\"ai-job-market-effects-remain-largely-speculative\" class=\"ArticleBody-subtitle\"><a id=\"headline1\"\/>AI job market effects remain \u2018largely speculative\u2019<\/h2>\n<div class=\"InlineImage-imageEmbed\" id=\"ArticleBody-InlineImage-108208784\" data-test=\"InlineImage\">\n<div class=\"InlineImage-wrapper\">\n<div>\n<p>Xavierarnau | E+ | Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Already, some companies have hinted at workforce cuts because of AI.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the CEO of Accenture, a global professional services company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/26\/accenture-plans-on-exiting-staff-who-cant-be-reskilled-on-ai.html\">recently outlined plans to lay off staff<\/a> who are unable to reskill on artificial intelligence. <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/CRM\/\">Salesforce<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> CEO Marc Benioff said in late August that the firm had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/02\/salesforce-ceo-confirms-4000-layoffs-because-i-need-less-heads-with-ai.html\">cut 4,000 customer support roles<\/a> due to AI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve reduced it from 9,000 heads to about 5,000, because I need less heads,\u201d Benioff said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>However, economists note that the extent of change is minimal at this point.<\/p>\n<p>Despite widespread anxiety over the effects of AI on today\u2019s labor market, such worries remain \u201clargely speculative,\u201d according to an Oct. 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/budgetlab.yale.edu\/research\/evaluating-impact-ai-labor-market-current-state-affairs\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> by the Yale University Budget Lab.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOverall, our metrics indicate that the broader labor market has not experienced a discernible disruption since ChatGPT\u2019s release 33 months ago, undercutting fears that AI automation is currently eroding the demand for cognitive labor across the economy,\u201d the researchers wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The technology also has some flaws, experts said. For example, AI can still hallucinate and produce inaccurate work, they said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>So far, gen AI has had limited impact in terms of fully displacing certain skills, Indeed found.<\/p>\n<p>The technology is \u201cvery likely\u201d to fully replace just 19 job-related skills \u2014 or 0.7% of the roughly 2,900 skills Indeed analyzed. These include basic math, prompt engineering and image classification, for example, it said.<\/p>\n<p>This analysis only measures the technology\u2019s \u201ctransformational potential\u201d \u2014 in other words, if all businesses were to fully integrate the technology into their workflows, according to Indeed.<\/p>\n<p>But many businesses aren\u2019t there yet, it said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"augmentation-or-automation\" class=\"ArticleBody-subtitle\"><a id=\"headline2\"\/>Augmentation, or automation?<\/h2>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>A big debate over the job market effect of AI comes down to augmentation versus automation, said Toubia: \u201cIs AI going to automate your job and make you obsolete, or is it going to augment your job and make you more productive?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That answer may vary by industry. For instance, some companies may decide to completely automate their customer service or call centers with agentic AI.\u00a0On the other hand, a human programmer may use AI to write and produce lines of code, boosting their productivity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most industries so far are using AI in such a \u201chybrid\u201d capacity, in which humans and AI co-exist, said Indeed\u2019s Ullrich.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-108208570\">\n<div role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" id=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-108208570\" class=\"PlaceHolder-wrapper\" data-vilynx-id=\"7000391205\" data-test=\"VideoPlaceHolder\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-videoEmbed\" id=\"InlineVideo-0\" data-test=\"InlineVideo\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-inlineThumbnailContainer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"InlineVideo-videoThumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/image.cnbcfm.com\/api\/v1\/image\/108208571-17597938571759793855-41978875494-1080pnbcnews.jpg?v=1759793857&w=750&h=422&vtcrop=y\" alt=\"Allies and algorithms: The matrix and partnerships shaping AI\u2019s future\"\/><span class=\"InlineVideo-videoButton\"\/><span\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Almost half \u2014 46% \u2014 of skills in a typical U.S. job posting are poised for this hybrid transformation by gen AI, according to Indeed. In this state, human oversight is essential and AI can perform a significant chunk of routine tasks, it said.<\/p>\n<p>About 64% of small businesses are using or piloting AI tools to varying degrees, according to a survey by Homebase, which polled 828 \u201cdecision-makers\u201d between May and June.<\/p>\n<p>Going forward, most jobs \u2014 54% \u2014 are likely to be \u201cmoderately\u201d transformed by generative AI, depending on how quickly businesses adopt the technology, according to the Indeed report.<\/p>\n<p>While experts agree that it\u2019s difficult to predict what the future holds, it\u2019s possible that a potential long-term effect from AI is the creation of new jobs and industries that do not exist yet, said Toubia.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, it\u2019s important to start finding ways to interact with AI in productive ways, he said.
