{"id":36275,"date":"2025-10-01T12:45:05","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T12:45:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=36275"},"modified":"2025-10-01T12:45:05","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T12:45:05","slug":"groceries-and-gas-are-top-purchase-pain-points-td-bank-finds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=36275","title":{"rendered":"Groceries and gas are top purchase pain points, TD Bank finds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div id=\"RegularArticle-ArticleBody-5\" data-module=\"ArticleBody\" data-test=\"articleBody-2\" data-analytics=\"RegularArticle-articleBody-5-2\"><span class=\"HighlightShare-hidden\" style=\"top:0;left:0\"\/><\/p>\n<div role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-108206080\">\n<div role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" id=\"Placeholder-ArticleBody-Video-108206080\" class=\"PlaceHolder-wrapper\" data-vilynx-id=\"7000390624\" data-test=\"VideoPlaceHolder\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-videoEmbed\" id=\"InlineVideo-0\" data-test=\"InlineVideo\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"InlineVideo-inlineThumbnailContainer\"><span class=\"InlineVideo-videoButton\"\/><span\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>For years, consumers have tried to keep up with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/10000793\">rising cost of living<\/a>, but some may be reaching their limit.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bea.gov\/news\/2025\/personal-income-and-outlays-august-2025\" target=\"_blank\">personal consumption expenditures price index<\/a>\u00a0showed that consumer spending stayed strong even as inflation remains stubbornly elevated and the cost of food and other goods continues to rise.<\/p>\n<p>However, Americans are now increasingly leaning on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/credit-cards\/\">credit cards<\/a> to buy essentials like gas and groceries, according to TD Bank, which provided CNBC with an exclusive early look at its new credit card pulse check survey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More from Personal Finance:<\/strong><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/30\/government-shutdown-congress-what-it-means-your-money.html\">How a government shutdown may affect your money<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/29\/government-shutdown-financial-prep-for-federal-workers.html\">How workers can prepare financially for a government shutdown<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/25\/education-department-opens-fafsa-ahead-of-schedule.html\">Education Department opens FAFSA ahead of schedule<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Grocery prices rose by 2.7% in August from a year earlier, the fastest annual pace since August 2023, according to the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/cpi\/\" target=\"_blank\">consumer price index<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, groceries make up the bulk of credit card purchases for many Americans, with 46% citing it as their top spending category in a typical month, the TD Bank survey found.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/02\/10\/wholesale-egg-prices-have-blown-way-past-prior-record.html\">dozen eggs<\/a>\u00a0or a pound of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/04\/why-coffee-prices-are-so-high-and-where-theyre-headed-next.html\">coffee<\/a>, Americans are having a hard time adjusting to current prices, other <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.wf.com\/wfmoneystudy-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\">research<\/a> also shows.
