{"id":32912,"date":"2025-07-01T07:40:45","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T07:40:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=32912"},"modified":"2025-07-01T07:40:45","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T07:40:45","slug":"donald-trump-suggests-doge-review-subsidies-to-elon-musks-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=32912","title":{"rendered":"Donald Trump suggests Doge review subsidies to Elon Musk\u2019s companies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Unlock the White House Watch newsletter for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description o3-type-body-base\">Your guide to what Trump\u2019s second term means for Washington, business and the world<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=2591f830-d707-499e-a1ae-36eaf6ebc6ca&amp;newsletter-id=65b8fec772badb00166eafc6\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>Donald Trump has suggested the US government should examine any subsidies handed out to Elon Musk\u2019s business empire, claiming that \u201cbig money\u201d could be saved.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on his Truth Social platform early on Tuesday, Trump said: \u201cElon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and, without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back to South Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exchange deepens a rift between the two men over the US president\u2019s signature tax and spending bill. <\/p>\n<p>As the Senate pressed ahead with a marathon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/dd5c6f6e-69a6-4a1d-a307-e202a9d4d54b\" data-trackable=\"link\">voting session on the bill<\/a> on Tuesday, Musk renewed his attacks on legislation that he said would lead to \u201cthe biggest debt increase in history\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>In a series of posts on his social media platform X, Musk also repeated his threat to form a new political party, as \u201can alternate to the Democrat-Republican uniparty\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The bitter public feud, which began after Musk left the administration in May, marks a spectacular unravelling of the previously close ties between the two that were forged as the billionaire helped bankroll Trump\u2019s return to the White House. <\/p>\n<p>Trump then installed Musk, who runs Tesla and SpaceX, as the head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), tasking him with finding trillions of dollars of savings across government.<\/p>\n<p>In Tuesday\u2019s post, Trump said: \u201cNo more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have Doge take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s Frankfurt-listed shares fell 6 per cent following Trump\u2019s post. <\/p>\n<p>The Financial Times reported in February that Musk\u2019s six businesses profit from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/78928872-918b-4ce6-87c7-c6545c9467f8\" data-trackable=\"link\">about $20bn<\/a> in government contracts \u2014 which the billionaire has previously insisted were all won on merit and have provided value for money. <\/p>\n<p>Tesla has received more than $2.8bn in state and federal subsidies, while SpaceX has become the de facto operator of the US space programme, winning billions of dollars\u2019 worth of government contracts.<\/p>\n<aside aria-labelledby=\"aside-label\" class=\"n-content-recommended--single-story n-content-recommended--inset\" data-component=\"recommended\">\n<p class=\"n-content-recommended__title o3-type-body-highlight\">Recommended<\/p>\n<div class=\"o-teaser o-teaser--article o-teaser--small o-teaser--stacked o-teaser--has-image o-teaser--opinion js-teaser\" data-id=\"9c9071d2-cbc8-4f69-a502-38be42101ea5\">\n<div class=\"o-teaser__image-container js-teaser-image-container\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/9c9071d2-cbc8-4f69-a502-38be42101ea5\" data-trackable=\"image-link\" data-trackable-context-story-link=\"image-link\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"o-teaser__image-placeholder\" style=\"aspect-ratio:2493\/1402\"><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Responding to Trump\u2019s suggestion that Doge look at government subsidies for his business empire, Musk posted on his own social media platform X: \u201cI am literally saying CUT IT ALL.
