{"id":32485,"date":"2025-06-24T17:34:24","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T17:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=32485"},"modified":"2025-06-24T17:34:24","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T17:34:24","slug":"donald-trump-lashes-out-at-israel-and-iran-in-push-to-preserve-ceasefire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=32485","title":{"rendered":"Donald Trump lashes out at Israel and Iran in push to preserve ceasefire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Unlock the White House Watch newsletter for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description o3-type-body-base\">Your guide to what Trump\u2019s second term means for Washington, business and the world<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=e229be99-e567-4155-bc30-96dfa4bcaa12&amp;newsletter-id=65b8fec772badb00166eafc6\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>Donald Trump lashed out at both Israel and Iran as he battled to preserve the fragile truce between the two countries after 12 days of war between two of the Middle East\u2019s most powerful militaries.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/67207725-da79-4c3b-9ced-0479adb0da06\" data-trackable=\"link\">ceasefire brokered by the US president<\/a> appeared to be holding on Tuesday evening despite what Trump denounced as violations by both sides, which led him to issue a rare rebuke of the Israeli government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don\u2019t know what the fuck they\u2019re doing,\u201d he told reporters at the White House before leaving for a Nato summit in the Netherlands. <\/p>\n<p>The outbreak of a full-blown <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/middle-east-war\" data-trackable=\"link\">war<\/a> between Israel and Iran has long been one of the region\u2019s worst-case scenarios amid fears it would spill across borders and engulf the entire region.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/donald-trump\" data-trackable=\"link\">Trump<\/a> added that he was \u201creally unhappy\u201d with Israel in particular, but insisted that \u201cthe ceasefire is in effect\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The president had triumphantly declared the end of hostilities between the two countries on Monday. <\/p>\n<p>He promised to usher in new era of peace in the region after 48 hours in which the US claimed to have destroyed Iran\u2019s principal nuclear sites and Tehran staged a largely symbolic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/a47ddb98-9b35-48ae-b5d7-f62ecd3433e4\" data-trackable=\"link\">retaliation<\/a> against the largest US air base in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>But in the hours before the ceasefire took effect early in the morning, Israel said it had killed \u201chundreds\u201d of Iranian security personnel in bombing raids in Tehran, while an Iranian missile pierced Israeli air defences, hitting a residential building in Beersheba, killing at least four people.<\/p>\n<p>After the truce came into force, Iran fired three further missiles, according to Israeli officials. The attacks left no casualties, but sparked outrage in Israel, which dispatched bombers in retaliation and struck an Iranian radar station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS,\u201d Trump posted on his Truth Social network as the US mobilised its diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict. \u201cIF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!\u201d <\/p>\n<p>After a conversation between the US president and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel said it had \u201crefrained from additional attacks\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu\u2019s office added: \u201cPresident Trump expressed his great appreciation for Israel, which achieved all of its objectives for the war, as well as his confidence in the stability of\u00a0the\u00a0ceasefire.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>While maintaining that Iran had also breached the truce, Trump offered conciliatory gestures towards Tehran\u2019s leaders. The president said he did not want to see regime change in Iran, despite floating that possibility on Sunday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want it. I\u2019d like to see everything calm down as quickly as possible,\u201d he told reporters on Air Force One. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegime change takes chaos and ideally we don\u2019t want to see so much chaos. So we\u2019ll see how it goes.\u201d Trump also said China could \u201cnow continue to purchase oil from Iran\u201d, in an apparent reversal of policy after his administration spent months imposing sanctions on Chinese refineries for buying Iranian crude.<\/p>\n<aside aria-labelledby=\"aside-label\" class=\"n-content-recommended--single-story n-content-recommended--inset\" data-component=\"recommended\">\n<p class=\"n-content-recommended__title o3-type-body-highlight\">Recommended<\/p>\n<div class=\"o-teaser o-teaser--article o-teaser--small o-teaser--stacked o-teaser--has-image o-teaser--opinion js-teaser\" data-id=\"82ecd049-340d-49e4-9ca7-575b31d035ce\">\n<div class=\"o-teaser__image-container js-teaser-image-container\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/82ecd049-340d-49e4-9ca7-575b31d035ce\" data-trackable=\"image-link\" data-trackable-context-story-link=\"image-link\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"o-teaser__image-placeholder\" style=\"aspect-ratio:2197\/1236\"><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Vice-President JD Vance sought to portray Trump\u2019s rapidly shifting positions on the crisis in the Middle East as a \u201cforeign policy doctrine\u201d that would \u201cchange the country (and the world) for the better\u201d. He added that the focus on US interests would involve \u201cno mission creep\u201d or protracted, ill defined \u2018nation building\u2019 BS\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices fell as Tuesday\u2019s ceasefire appeared to take hold, trading 6.1 per cent lower at $67.13 a barrel.<\/p>\n<p>Crude had dropped sharply following Iran\u2019s attack on the US air base in Doha, which traders interpreted as designed to avoid a further response from the US.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu launched Israel\u2019s military campaign against Iran nearly two weeks ago, vowing to eliminate what he said was a threat from Tehran\u2019s missile and nuclear programmes.
