{"id":31603,"date":"2025-06-23T11:33:06","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T11:33:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=31603"},"modified":"2025-06-23T11:33:06","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T11:33:06","slug":"apple-locked-in-last-minute-app-store-negotiations-to-avoid-brussels-fines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=31603","title":{"rendered":"Apple locked in last-minute App Store negotiations to avoid Brussels fines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Unlock the Editor\u2019s Digest for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description o3-type-body-base\"><span>Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=b5d51870-e864-4aa5-b998-c0d2994a7e27\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>Apple is locked in last-minute negotiations with Brussels regulators over making changes to its App Store to avoid a series of escalating EU fines due to come into force this week. <\/p>\n<p>The $3tn company is in talks with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/stream\/e0c4f5e5-5ecc-404a-a236-afde4624e372\" data-trackable=\"link\">European Commission<\/a>, after being fined \u20ac500mn for breaching the bloc\u2019s Digital Markets Act, the landmark legislation designed to curtail the power of big tech groups.<\/p>\n<p>People involved in the negotiations said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/apple-inc\" data-trackable=\"link\">Apple<\/a> was expected to offer concessions on its \u201csteering\u201d provisions that stop users accessing offers outside the App Store.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators ordered the Silicon Valley company to revise its rules within two months of its initial \u20ac500mn fine, with the deadline for the company to comply with the bloc\u2019s rules in order to avoid new levies expiring on Thursday. Those financial penalties can escalate over time and reach up to 5 per cent of average daily worldwide revenue.<\/p>\n<p>According to those with knowledge of the talks, Apple is expected to announce some concessions that buy the company more time, as the commission would first assess those changes before making a final decision. <\/p>\n<p>Those involved in the negotiations said discussions had also touched upon Apple\u2019s \u201cCore Technology Fee\u201d. That fee requires developers to pay for each annual install after 1mn downloads.
