{"id":31204,"date":"2025-06-18T11:36:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T11:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=31204"},"modified":"2025-06-18T11:36:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T11:36:12","slug":"anduril-teams-up-with-rheinmetall-to-develop-drones-for-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=31204","title":{"rendered":"Anduril teams up with Rheinmetall to develop drones for Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Unlock the Editor\u2019s Digest for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description o3-type-body-base\"><span>Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=32c61658-cf03-4209-8341-07456ea7b6ff\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>US defence tech group Anduril will team up with Germany\u2019s Rheinmetall to develop drones for Europe, as American companies seek to use their technological expertise to secure a share of rising defence spending in the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The two companies said on Wednesday they will jointly develop European variants of Anduril\u2019s Barracuda and Fury aerial drones, as well as exploring opportunities to build solid rocket motors, used to propel missiles and rockets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a different model of defence collaboration, one built on shared production, operational relevance and mutual respect for sovereignty,\u201d said Brian Schimpf, chief executive of Anduril.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The US technology start-up has several partnerships with European companies, including Rheinmetall, but Anduril on Wednesday emphasised that the new venture was focused on creating a sovereign capability in Germany and Europe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is concern among some of the traditional US defence groups that they could lose out on lucrative defence contracts as European governments seek to build up their domestic capabilities. Donald Trump\u2019s administration has made clear that the US is no longer prepared to help pay for Europe\u2019s security.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anduril is the most prominent of a group of technology-led defence start-ups aiming to break the dominance of traditional manufacturers by promising faster innovation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The war in Ukraine has underlined the importance of drones in modern warfare. Anduril\u2019s Barracuda is designed to be cheap, quick to build and also easy to launch in large numbers. Fury is a more expensive, longer-range drone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anduril said the partnership with Rheinmetall reflects a \u201cbuilt with, not built for\u201d philosophy, \u201cone that prioritises local control, transparency and adaptability over dependency or lock-in\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Armin Papperger, Rheinmetall chief executive, said the partnership would integrate Anduril\u2019s technology into the Germany company\u2019s European production \u201cto bring new kinds of autonomous capabilities into service, ones that are quick to produce, modular and aligned with NATO\u2019s evolving requirements\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The venture will also try to target Europe\u2019s lack of rocket motor production.
