{"id":21619,"date":"2025-03-30T22:27:10","date_gmt":"2025-03-30T22:27:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=21619"},"modified":"2025-03-30T22:27:10","modified_gmt":"2025-03-30T22:27:10","slug":"trump-says-he-is-not-joking-about-seeking-a-third-term-in-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=21619","title":{"rendered":"Trump says he is \u2018not joking\u2019 about seeking a third term in office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Unlock the White House Watch newsletter for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description\">Your guide to what the 2024 US election means for Washington and the world<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=89ae223d-ec50-437d-a70e-b844716bbb58&amp;newsletter-id=65b8fec772badb00166eafc6\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>Donald Trump said he was \u201cnot joking\u201d about serving a third term, adding that there were \u201cmethods\u201d by which he could bypass the constitutional prohibition on US presidents being elected three times.<\/p>\n<p>In a phone interview with NBC News on Sunday, Trump said \u201cit is far too early to think about it\u201d, but confirmed that he was entertaining the possibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people want me to do it,\u201d said Trump, 78. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it\u2019s very early in the administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/constitution.congress.gov\/constitution\/amendment-22\/#:~:text=No%20person%20shall%20be%20elected,the%20President%20more%20than%20once.\" data-trackable=\"link\">22nd amendment<\/a> to the US Constitution states: \u201cNo person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Trump replied: \u201cThere are methods which you could do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It would take a two-thirds vote in Congress or a constitutional convention called by two-thirds of the states to allow Trump to run for a third term.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ogles.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/rep-ogles-proposes-amending-22nd-amendment-allow-trump-serve-third-term\" data-trackable=\"link\">Andy Ogles<\/a>, a Republican member of the House from Tennessee, has offered a proposal the 22nd amendment, but there is not enough political support among Congress or the states for such a move.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump has repeatedly joked in public about the possibility of running for a third term.
