{"id":20445,"date":"2025-03-15T21:19:41","date_gmt":"2025-03-15T21:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=20445"},"modified":"2025-03-15T21:19:41","modified_gmt":"2025-03-15T21:19:41","slug":"trump-orders-strikes-on-iran-backed-houthi-rebels-in-yemen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/financialrush.com\/?p=20445","title":{"rendered":"Trump orders strikes on Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Unlock the White House Watch newsletter for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description\">Your guide to what the 2024 US election means for Washington and the world<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=4d0d901d-692d-4fa9-b23a-ad81c66e1372&amp;newsletter-id=65b8fec772badb00166eafc6\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>The US on Saturday launched a wave of air strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, as Donald Trump warned that \u201chell will rain down upon\u201d the Iran-backed group if they continue to attack shipping in the Red Sea. <\/p>\n<p>The US president also warned Iran to halt its support for the militant group \u201cimmediately\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The attacks came days after the Houthis, which control most of Yemen\u2019s populous north, threatened to resume attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, I have ordered the United States Military to launch decisive and powerful Military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen,\u201d Trump said in a post on Truth Social. \u201cThey have waged an unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American, and other, ships, aircraft, and drones\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Houthis launched scores of attacks on merchant vessels and US navy ships in the Red Sea last year, saying they were acting in solidarity with Palestinians as Israel carried out its ferocious offensive against Hamas in Gaza. <\/p>\n<p>The assaults severely disrupted traffic through one of the world\u2019s most important maritime trade routes and continued despite US, UK and Israeli air strikes on Houthi military targets in Yemen. <\/p>\n<p>The Houthis halted their campaign after Israel and Hamas agreed to a fragile ceasefire in January under which the Palestinian militants agreed to release hostages seized in their October 7, 2023 assault on the Jewish state. <\/p>\n<p>But the Houthis warned this week that they would resume their attacks on shipping after Israel blocked the delivery of all aid into Gaza in a bid to pressure Hamas to accept a revised proposal for the second phase of the ceasefire deal. <\/p>\n<p>The US air strikes on Saturday targeted Houthis\u2019 leaders, bases and missile defences, Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Houthi attack on American vessels will not be tolerated,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWe will use overwhelming lethal force until we have achieved our objective\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo all Houthi terrorists, YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON\u2019T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!\u201d Trump added.<\/p>\n<p>Trump on Saturday also warned Tehran against supporting the Yemeni rebels, which are part of Iranian-backed militants that make up the so-called \u201caxis of resistance\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The US and Israel accuse Iran of supplying the Houthis with increasingly sophisticated drone and missile technology, as well as intelligence. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo Iran: Support for the Houthi terrorists must end IMMEDIATELY!\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo NOT threaten the American People, their President, who has received one of the largest mandates in Presidential History, or Worldwide shipping lanes. If you do, BEWARE, because America will hold you fully accountable and, we won\u2019t be nice about it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump is reimposing his so-called \u201cmaximum pressure\u201d campaign against the republic. During his first term, Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 nuclear deal Tehran signed with world powers and imposed hundreds of sanctions on the republic. <\/p>\n<p>He has announced more sanctions on Tehran since returning to the White House, while also saying he wants to negotiate with Iran on its nuclear programme.
