The stories that matter on money and politics in the race for the White House
The US presidential election is the most unpredictable in living memory, with FT polling forecasting that the results in just a few key swing states will decide who takes the White House.
With just five days to go, Americans appear to be evenly split. Nationally, Kamala Harris has a narrow 1-percentage point lead over Donald Trump. But on the key issue of the economy, including inflation and the high cost of living, Trump has regained a slender lead when voters were asked which candidate they trusted more. The former president also polls marginally better in six of the seven crucial states — though four of those leads are well within the margin of error.
National polling, of course, is only helpful to an extent, because the winner is decided in the US electoral college. Back in 2016, Hillary Clinton won far more votes nationally than Trump, but he won more of the battleground states, and therefore the White House.
So, based on your own predictions and methodology — whatever they are — who do you think will win the US Election: Harris or Trump? Tell us your views by voting in our poll or commenting below the line.
